DESCRIPTION: Ancient Han period earthenware canjian hu ("silkworm cocoon flask") featuring lacquered designs throughout depicting a complex geometric pattern of fenghuang ("Chinese phoenixes") and serpents. Piece is decorated on either side with four symmetrical fenghuang and all images are fashioned against a silver and red toned background. Piece is mounted on a wooden stand.
