A RARE GEORGE II CARVED GILTWOOD CABINET STAND
Possibly attributable to Henry Flitcroft (1697 - 1769)
The black and gilt Chinoiserie top fitted with a raised moulded edge (formally to fit a cabinet) above a pull-out brushing slide centred by a gilt brass handle, the base with a carved acanthus leaf border and a shell carved apron on four carved eagle surmounted S-scroll legs, 74cm wide x 47cm deep x 105cm high, (29in wide x 18 1/2in deep x 41in high)

Condition
The Japanned cabinet base:
With a pull-out brushing slide centred by a gilt brass handle is very stiff and does not open easily.
Chips, scuffs, scratches, wear and losses to the Japanned decoration, most noticeably to the left side. With possible refreshing to the decoration.

The carved giltwood stand:
With later oil gilding applied directly to an earlier gilding (possibly original).
With chips, losses and wear to gilding.
Flaking and chips to ochre wash to inside of frame and reverse of back legs.
Losses to left wing of front-right eagle.
Front left scroll foot partially missing, with old, repaired break to front right.
Later fillets of timber beneath the scroll feet, of varying heights.
Historic woodworm and areas of rot to base of original foot.
Chips, scuffs and scratches.
