The Ten Plagues of Modern Civilization, first edition, signed presentation inscription from the author to Fred & Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence to endpaper, illustrations by J. Patrick Foulds, bookplate removed from front pastedown, original boards, bumping to spine ends and corners with some lifting at corners, 4to, Lahore, Tandra Devi Publications, 1938.
⁂ Omananda Puri (1882-1967, nee Maud MacCarthy), was an Irish violinist, singer, theosophist, poet and authority on Indian music. She founded an ashram in India where she lived for an extended period with her second husband, the composer and cellist John Foulds (their son would illustrate both her poetry and the present volume).
Frederick Pethick-Lawrence (1871-1961) British Labour politician, campaigner for women's suffrage and conscientious objector.
