An excellent photograph album compiled by a German soldier in China, most likely based in the German concession of Tientsin (Tianjin, properly), containing 104 photographs, most 4 x 6 in. or larger. There are about 20 commercial photographs, some color, the balance taken either by the soldier himself or local photographers. His locales varied, including Peking, Tianjin, Images in Peking include the cathedral, Hatamenstrasse, Hinrichtungsplatz (including two graphic photos of beheaded 'bandits', one in the process of losing his head), the American Casino, many images from Tianjin showing noted buildings, forces from various European countries, local people, junks, temples, rivers, scenes from Taiku, etc. Some images are a bit light, overall very good. The photos are contained within an 8 x 11 in. album with an attractive painted and lacquered cover, the leather spine cover torn and chipped.
