Description
HEINRICH HOFFMANN (1885 - 1957) Adolf Hitler's official photographer, and a Nazi politician and publisher, a member of Hitler's intimate circle. Hoffmann's photographs were a significant part of Hitler's propaganda campaign and he received royalties from all uses of Hitler's image, even on postage stamps, which made him a millionaire. Eva Braun was first introduced to Hitler by Hoffmann, who employed Braun as an assistant and model. A fine association piece, the book 'Das Erbe Unserer Ahnen' ('The Legacy of Our Ancestors'), Bild 1, by Franz Carl Enders (Stuttgart: Friedrich Bohnenberger Verlag), 1931. 622pp. 4to. in blue leather with gilt title and decoration on cover and spine, spine and cover edges a bit worn, contents very good. A heavily illustrated (nearly 500 illustrations!) history of Germany from prehistory to the migration of peoples into the early Middle Ages. The front flyleaf bears a presentation inscription to Hoffmann by the publisher's wife, Stuttgart, Nov. 10, 1933, concluding 'Heil Hitler'. Undoubtedly, Hoffmann was at times employed as a photographer by the publisher, and although we have not searched this volume, some of his work may appear within.
