Description
Captured German army M42 Garrison Cap, wool construction with BeVo insignia at the front, unmarked, soiled and worn from use. The cap was captured by PFC Joseph H. Rose of HQ Company, 1st Battalion, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Div. who also was billeted at the home of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler (see other lots in this sale). In a ca. 1980 typed note (copy included), Rose indicates that he personally took this cap from a captured German soldier on Aug. 15, 1944, near Frejus, France and states that the man served with 'Groupe G, commanded by Johannes Blaskowitz...' Sold with a letter of provenance from Rose's niece and a copy of Rose's Enlisted Record and Report of Separation.
