Waltham Presidential pocket watch in 14 karat yellow gold. White enamel dial with black dashed Roman numerals and seconds dial at 6 o'clock. Turned case, with triple cover, with the following inscription on the back cover: "From the President of the United States to Francisco Mengual, Master of the Spanish mail steamer General Fernández Silvestre, in recognition of his humane services in effecting the rescue at sea on December 6-1916, of twenty-three seamen belonging to the crew of the U.S.S LANSDALE".
This watch was a gift from US President Thomas Woodrow Wilson to the Spanish captain of the merchant marine Francisco Mengual Domenech. For his help in the rescue of an American ship.
