Description
Wehrpass issued to Obergefreiter Gerd Ewegen, a soldier born in Goldenne on Jan. 4, 1912. The wehrpass was issued on Nov. 2, 1939, and surprisingly signed by a Kriegsmarine commander. He was assigned to various 'Ersatz' battalions and served in the East with the 12th and 434 Infantry Regiments. His last assignment was a position at Stalag XI B at Fallingbostel on Jan. 28, 1944. He would die at the camp on Sep. 18, 1944. The first page of the book bears a red diagonal line with the notation that Ewegan died on Sep. 18, 1944, with no cause set forth within the book. Lacking photo, else good condition. Stalag XI B housed Polish, French, Belgian, Soviet, Italian, British, Yugoslav, American, Canadian, New Zealander, and other Allied POWs.
