Description
Originally listed at $500...
Pre-Columbian, Belize, New River (Rio Nuevo), Maya, Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A collection of 3 chert tools, each knapped into a blade form with sharp edges - one is lanceolate, and the others have broader, paddle shaped tips. Daggers like these examples have been found at several archaeological sites throughout southern Mesoamerica and the Caribbean. Although they are sometimes called "daggers", they are only found in ritual deposits, and their form suggests a ceremonial purpose rather than an actual tool. Size: 7.75" L x 3" W (19.7 cm x 7.6 cm)
Provenance: ex-Marc Amiguet Schmitt estate, Amiguet's Ancient Art, Evansville, Indiana, USA, acquired prior to January 1, 2010
