A charming and Stately Marine Watercolor, Shown flying the house flag of Rogers Brothers of Salem, Mass.

"The Shepherdess (rigged first as a ship but later a bark, as your pictures shows) Was butt in Medford in 1825 by Sprague and Jones for R. D. Shepherd of Boston. In 1832 she was purchased by Rogers Brothers of Salem. She sailed largely in the India Trade to Bombay. In 1834 she made an arrival from Rio... She was sold back to Boston in 1841 and in 1844 she was sold to J. and William Randall as a whaler out of Mystic, Conn. Under their management she made five voyages and then in 1860, she was sold back to Boston. What happened to her then I can not say but I suspect she was broken up because of her great age.

The House Flag is that of Rogers Bros. I have not yet been able to identify the artist, but I suspect he is a seaman did it [sic].
