Rare George Washingon Memorial Newspaper Containing the Famous Historic "Funeral Oration by Major Henry Lee"
January 16 & 20, 1800-Dated Federal Period, TWO (2) Contemporary Black Bordered Newspapers in Mourning of The Death of George Washington, both combined containing the full historic text of "Funeral Oration by Major Henry Lee,... First in War"First in Peace"and First in the hearts of his Countrymen.", Russell's Gazette, Boston, Very Fine.
This outstanding important Pair of George Washington Memorial Newspapers are fully authentic and original containing 4 pages each, with each complete issues of Russell's Gazette, Boston, consecutively dated January 16, 1800 and January 20, 1800. Each newspaper has heavy outer Black "Mourning" Borders, some horizontal split centerfolds have been restored, scattered tone or spotting, the 16th has some minor outer edge selvage chipping not affecting the text, each is nicely printed and easily readable. These Two Complete Newspapers contain several various reports of George Washington Death Eulogies and Commemorations, such as; parts one and two of the historic "Funeral Oration by Maj. Henry Lee," a Letter by John Adams, a Letter by Martha Washington, and much more.
The second, January 20, 1800-Dated, complete issue of Russell's Gazette, also has similar Black Mourning Ruled Borders and itself contains several more George Washington Death Memorials. The most important portion being the continuation to completion of Henry Lee's famous oration, of which the first portion was printed in the issue of the 16th. The Funeral Oration by Major Henry Lee includes Lee's immortal words about Washington: "First in War"First in Peace"and First in the hearts of his Countrymen." There is an important graphic showing an illustration of Washington's Coffin on an inside page with the order of his funeral procession, plus more commemorations. There is a substantial report on the "Masonic Grand Lodge Procession" of Boston to be held on Saturday, February 22nd, 1800, which was held by Paul Revere's Lodge where he was once the Master and the procession where Jacob Perkins provided the various famous "George Washington Funeral Medals" distributed and worn in Washington's commemoration. A wonderful mated Pair of Newspapers of great historical importance. (2 issues)
