[AND] ALEXANDER DE NEVO - CONSILIA CONTRA JUDAEOS FOENERANTES bound with: ASTESANUS DE AST - CANONES POENITENTIALES. by NICOLAUS of AUSMO January 1st, 1479/1480 Size 6 by 8.5" 378 leaves (756 pp), double-column, Gothic types Early edition of Nicolaus de Ausmo's (d. 1453) "Supplementum Summae Pisanellae", an alphabetically arranged supplement to the "Summa de casibus conscientiae" of Bartholomew of San Concordio (d. 1347). Printed as usual with "Astesanus de Ast's" (d. ca. 1330) "Penitential Canons", taken from his principal work, the "Summa de casibus conscientiae". Alexander de Nevo's (d. 1484) "Consilia contra judaeos", a treatise against the Jewish moneylenders, joined editions of the "Supplementum" from 1476. Italian or Spanish original calf binding , covers with blind- and roll-stamped borders and flower tools, spine with 3 raised bands, metal clasps & catches (spine skillfully repaired). A few period manuscript notes at the margins Very nice scarce copy. Very good condition ----------------------------------------------- Completed in 1444, this important, alphabetically digested encyclopedia of canon law is an enlargement of the Summa de Casibus Conscientiae by Bartholomew of San Concordio. Two other important texts are appended: the Canones Poenitentiales by Astesano and Alexander de Nevo's (or Nievo's) analysis of the Church's view of Jewish money lenders, Consilia Contra Judaeos Fenerantes. These two texts appear in editions of the Supplementum published after 1476. The Consilia appears last in our volume and ends with its date of composition, 17 November 1441, but the colophon appears at the end of the Canones and dates the printing to 1482.
