Description
Sir Muirhead Bone (Scottish 1876-1953) The Solent, 1920, drypoint, signed in pencil lower right margin, matted and framed. As noted on the verso, numbered v/xiv, one of five impressions in this state. The view, drawn from nature, but In reverse as printed, from the hill over Farringford in the Isle of Wight, looking across the Solent, towards Hurst Castle and the New Forest. Golden Hill Fort, with smoke rising from a gun, is on the near shore. On the right is the Totland Bay Hotel. The distant landscape more complete and shaded up to the edge of the plate on the right.
Dimensions: 6 3/4" x 9 3/4" plate size, 14 1/4" x 18 1/4" as framed.
