Hirokage Woodblock Towboats on the Yotsugi-dori This 1859 woodblock by Utagawa Hirokage is from his 1859 woodblock series "Comical Views of Famous Places in Edo". This is number 40, "Towboats on the Yotsugi-dori Canal" and features a woman smoking opium on the bank of the canal, while passengers in a passing boat look on in amusement and horror. Hirokage was a student of the famous printmaker Hiroshige, and this series is a parody of Hiroshige's 100 Famous Views of Edo as well as some of Hokusai's works. The print is in good condition for its age, with no known rips, tears or holes, and bold colors. Approximate size: 14.5" x 9.25" x 0.25" Approximate weight: 0.2 lbs
