North America, United States, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A whimsical metal carousel horse brightly painted like a spotted appaloosa in a blue and orange color scheme, with a bridle and saddle painted on the surface. Despite his hollow interior and size, the horse stands sturdily on the thick legs welded to the main body. The broad back could accommodate a small child, a handle is set between the ears for gripping, and the posterior loop on the rump was for chains, a rope seatbelt, or reins. A bolt just behind the neck extends through to the stomach where a pole passed through. This simple carousel horse may have been part of a traveling circus or fair; lightweight for travel but durable. Size: 42" L x 6" W x 35" H (106.7 cm x 15.2 cm x 88.9 cm)
Provenance: ex-private Bishop Family Trust collection, the Trust of the late Bill Bishop, a noted antiquarian with shops in Scottsdale, Arizona and Allenspark, Colorado, USA, acquired before 2010
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
