A framed pair of woodcuts from a triptych in the series "Modern Parodies of Genji," by the Japanese artist Yoshiiku Utagawa (also known as Yochiiku Ochiai), a respected Ukiyo-e artist. The first woodcut, which is the right image of the triptych, depicts women in floral robes on a balcony overlooking a moonlit lake. One woman holds an ornamental tray with a miniature diorama mounted on top. The second woodcut, which is the left image of the triptych, presents three women gazing at the impressive full moon or tray that the other lady has carried in. Yoshiiku's signature and seal marks are on the lower left corner of each woodcut. Both are set in a custom wood frame under glass, and ready to be displayed. Condition
Yoshiiku's signature and seal marks are on the lower left corner of each woodcut. Both are mounted in attractive wood frames under glass and have not been examined outside the frames. This said, it is possible to see a few minor creases to woodcuts, several smudges, and some fading. Otherwise, both appear to be in overall excellent condition. Frames are also very nice save a few scuffs as shown.
