Ancient Near East, Islamic culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A beautiful free-blown glass flask of a cylindrical form with a narrow tubular neck and a flat base. Sections of the body are adorned with petite glass inlays that create minimalist floral motifs, and the entire vessel is enveloped in fiery iridescence. Look closely and one may also find liberal remains of painted stars! Size: 1" W x 4.625" H (2.5 cm x 11.7 cm); 5.3" H (13.5 cm) on included custom stand.
A fragment of an Islamic glass bearing a similar design of ovoid inlays and painted stars can be found at the Corning Museum of Art under accession number 79.1.339.
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010

Condition
Repaired from multiple large pieces, with restoration to areas of base, body, and neck, and resurfacing with light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to rim, body, and base, with light encrustations. Great iridescence throughout.
