From a Potomac, MD estate. Made in Denmark - tag intact. H 32.5 W 30.5 D 26 Soiling, Minor Tears/Abrasions. Fritz Hansen, a Danish carpenter, founded his own furniture company under his name in 1872. Although he died in 1902 at only 55 years of age, his company was continued by his family and they introduced their first steam bent wood chair in 1915. In 1934 the company began a long line of collaborations with Danish designers that resulted in several iconic designs. A couple of the best known collaborations include the "Swan" and the "Egg" which were released in 1958 and became famous examples of the mid-century modern design era. The company continues its long line of successful collaborations today that maintain characteristics of Scandinavian minimalist design featuring functionality and the recurring use of bent wood.
