Item Details
Description
New York,1919-2014
Includes five photographs of Margaret Marty Mann (1904-1980) posing in various outfits and angles. Mann is considered to be the first woman with long term sobriety in Alcoholics Anonymous and a pioneer in advocating that alcoholism as a disease and not a promiscuous activity. McLaughlin-Gill studied painting at the New School for Social Research and at the Art Students League, graduating with a BFA in art and design from the Pratt Institute in 1941. During this time one of her photographs won Vogue's Prix de Paris contest, which led to McLaughlin-Gill to work for the magazine as the first female fashion photographer under contract for eleven years.
