Description
Liao Dynasty, Ca. 907-1125 BC (or later). A large schist head of Guanyin Buddha, carved with a small urna in the centre of the forehead, the face with heavily lidded eyes and angular nose, the ears with pendulous lobes, wearing an elaborately carved pond crown. Mounted on a custom-made display stand. Guanyin was associated with compassion and venerated by Mahayana Buddhists and followers of Chinese folk religions. She is known as the 'Goddess of Mercy'. Item comes with a professional historical report from Ancient Report Specialists.
