Description
Chicago White Sox Rooter bat-pin with ribbon. Per consigner, this is from circa 1906. Wooden bat is about 3.5" (8.9 cm) long. The ribbon has a tear between the bat and the word "White". There is a pin hole beneath the "E" in "Rooter", and small fleabite tear above the baseball. Comes in a small cardboard box (4" x 2.5" x 0.75") with "WHITE SOX" stamped on each side. The top of the box has significant black marker redacting and "W. Sox" printed in that same marker. The 1906 World Series was the ultimate baseball David & Goliath story. The Cubs won a National League record 116 games that year, and opposing them were their cross-town rivals, the White Sox, dubbed "the Hitless Wonders" - they won 93 games that year despite hitting an anemic 0.230 as a team - the lowest team bating average to ever capture a league pennant. But the White Sox had pitching: Nick Altrock, Doc White, and owner of the Major League's lowest career ERA - Ed Walsh - and they silenced the Cub bats to take the series in 6 games - the only all-Chicago World Series.
