Four (4) early 19th Cent. engraved prints of French garden plans from Jean-Charles Krafft's 1812 publication on architectural history, "Recueil d'Architecture Civile..." All matted and framed under glass in modern gilt and black wood frames. 1st item: Plates 97 and 98. A horizontally-oriented plan of a country house and estate. Text in upper left reads: "Plan general d'une maison a Neuilly pres le bois de boulogne dont Mr. Belanger, Architecte a augmente et ajuste les Batimens tant a l'exterieur que dans l'interieur, et dont il a fait les Jardins Anglais por Mr. de Sainte James, maintenant a Mr. Basan" (General plan of a house in Neuilly near the Bois de Boulogne, of which Mr. Belanger, architect, increased and adjusted the Buildings, both outside and inside, and of which he made the English Gardens for Mr. de Sainte James, now to Mr. Basan). Text in upper center reads: "Maison et jardin de M. Julien, a Epinay, pres Paris, par M. Molinos, architecte" (House and garden of M. Julien, at Epinay, near Paris; by Mr. Molinos, architect). Krafft is credited in margin. Sight: 15 13/16" H x 10" W. Framed: 21 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W. 4th item: Plates 199 and 120. Four depictions of Chinoiserie constructions including two bridge and two elevated pagodas, the latter of which are ornamented with snake and dragon motifs. Each are set in idyllic landscapes. Text in center right reads: "Plan general du jardin de Bagatelle, du grand Pavillon et se dependances, Batis et plantes en 63 jours, par Belanger Architect. An. 1782" (General plan of the Bagatelle garden, the Grand Pavilion and its outbuildings, Buildings and plants in 63 days, by Belanger Architect. Year 1782). Krafft and Van Lemcour, who assisted with the design, are credited in the margin along with engravers Gentot and Boullay. Sight: 23" H x 16 1/4" W. Frame: 28 1/2" H x 21 7/8" W. Artist note: Born in Austria, Jean-Charles Krafft (Austrian/French, 1764-1833) made his career in Paris. Although no extant buildings designed by Krafft are apparently known, he is well regarded for his designs for gardens and country houses, and for his numerous influential books on the construction and ornamentation of public buildings and houses--including the book in which these images were originally published, on the topic of country houses and gardens around Paris: "Recueil d'architecture civile: contenant les plans, coupes et elevations des chateaux, maisons de campagne, et habitations rurales, jardins anglais, temples, chaumieres, kiosques, ponts, etc., situes, aux environs de Paris et dans les departemens voisins, avec les decorations interieures, et le detail de ce qui concerne l'embellissement des jardins" (Collection of civil architecture: containing the plans, sections and elevations of the castles, country houses, and rural dwellings, English gardens, temples, thatched cottages, kiosks, bridges, etc., located, around Paris and in the neighboring departments, with the interior decorations, and the detail of what concerns the embellishment of the gardens).

1st item is in good condition. Print has faint creases running down the sheet vertically and dividing it in to thirds due to this image having been a fold-out in original publication. 1 1/4" area of discoloration along the left margin by mat, lower center, and smaller areas of discoloration in the upper-left text and upper-right marginal. Addition spots of discoloration appear and in the upper-right of the image, to the right of the text reading "Maison particuliere," and in the upper margin, center-left, located in both cases on either side of the crease. These may be the result of adhesive applied en verso. Also to the right of the text "Maison particuliere" is a 4" scuff or crease running diagonally from under mat. 2nd item appears pristine, with some scattered scuffing to frame. 3rd item is in fair condition. Print has buckling throughout along with some toning, especially in center and lower right. Minute, scattered scuffing to frame. 4th is in fair condition. Print has significant discoloration throughout, including some staining. Print has faint creases running down the sheet horizontally and dividing it in to thirds due to this image having been a fold-out in original publication. Not examined outside of frames.
