LOW RESERVE. Soup Cans (Gold on Grey) by Banksy is a Screenprint in on cartridge paper. Signed, dated and numbered in 12 out of 12 in pencil. Published by Pictures on Walls. Soup Cans (Gold on Grey) is an important early and iconic print by the British urban artist Banksy. It is a satirical play on Andy Warhol's soup cans which propelled the artist to worldwide fame. Here, Banksy substitutes a cheap, "extra value" can of tomato soup from British supermarket chain Tesco for Warhol's Campbell's. The present works comes from a small edition of only 12 works featuring gold accents along the upper portion of the 4 cans. Only two other examples from this edition have ever come to auction, the last being 4 years ago. Provenance as follows: Private Collector UK: Private Collector New York. Condition
All screen print inks are still very bright, vivid, bold. No scuff marks, bending, rips or repair work. Paper is in a pristine condition. No smudging on the pencil signature, which is completely fluid & in soft pencil.
