Description

Antique Cornelius & Co. Electrified Astral Solar Brass Oil Lamp With Marble Base and metal tole shade. Awesome manufacturer cartouche. The marble and brass fillet base is in wonderful condition with the exception of a cleaning. Cornelius and Co. was established by emigrant Dutch silversmith Christian Cornelius in 1827 in Philadelphia. Cornelius Co. solar lamps originally burned solid or refined lard oil or even kitchen grease but most were converted to kerosene as it became cheaper and more readily available. This antique lamp is one of those converted to electric but it still retains the original shape. The font and the stem are brass and the stepped base is marble with a patterned brass break between the two pieces. This is a truly beautiful and elegant, unique lamp with an long history and will make quite a statement in your home or collection. DIMENSIONS: 12ʺW × 12ʺD × 22ʺL. STYLES: American.
