Description
1999 Acrylic on canvas painting by Australian indigenous (Kukatja tribe) artist Ningie Nangala, born 1938. The painting depicts the country called Nawilyi, the land of her mother and father. According to the certificate accompanying the painting, "the elongated shape surrounded by a dark outline on the left of the painting is a lake named 'Warranpa'. Soak waters in the area are represented by three concentric circles; three on the right hand side and one on the bottom of the painting. Two centrally located ovoid shapes joined by a white line are rock holes. The white meandering lines found throughout the painting are creeks feeding into the water catchments area". The painting is rendered in the bold colors and shapes for which the artist is known. Verso reads: Warlayirti Artists Ningie Nanala. Approx. 35" x 23 1/4".
