Item Details
Description
Watercolor or black poster paint with pencil on cardboard, figure of a bird, pencil signed (*Bill Traylor, 1854-1947). Circa 1940. 14 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches. (Framed dimensions: 22 1/2 x 18 1/2 inches). There is a small hole at the center top of the cardboard as well as a small area of abraision in the upper right quadrant of the drawing which appears original to the composition; a very small area of restoration at the rear of the bird (appears to have been done with black or graphite pencil), otherwise very good condition. Removed from frame for inspection and shipping and then reframed. This work is sold with the frame but the picture has shifted in the frame and needs to be readjusted.

*Provenance: Property from a private estate, Dallas, TX. The reverse of the drawing is inscribed: Miss Dorothy Adair, 712 Randolph Street, Montgomery. Dorothy Adair lived with her grandmother at 712 Randolph Street, Montgomery, Alabama, in 1940, according to U.S. Census records. We have no other information about her or her family.
