Pair of Large Chinese Polychrome Enameled Porcelain 'Qianjiang Cai' Square Vases. Each tapering square baluster form, the front side finely painted and enameled to depict the classical scholars' elegant gathering scene of seven sages in the bamboo grove, the opposite side painted with an elderly scholar riding a donkey traveling in a hilly landscape setting, the side panel with a poetic inscription, signed and dated (the year of 1937). Republic period, early 20th Century. {Height 23 inches (58.4 cm)}. Condition: Wear, scratches and gilt losses. Ask the Asian Art Department for more information.
