Description
Campanian Red-Figured Bell-Krater with Display Box. Painted with female bust to one side, and standing female figure holding round object in right hand and tablet like object in left hand; acrylic display case included. Circa 340-325 B.C. {Approximate dimensions: 7 1/8 high x 7 1/4 inches diameter, case 10 1/4 high x 10 1/8 inches wide and deep.}. Provenance: Charles Ede Gallery, London, 1981. The consignor bought the piece from Charles Ede Gallery 21/091981. It was published in Charles Ede, General antiquities 120 (London, 1981), no.5, stock no.8370. It was once in the collection of Rev and Mrs T.S. Hichens, Cornwall. It belongs to the Spouted Skyphos Group, from Cape, c.340-325 BC. Charles Ede gallery bought it from Lane’s auction, lot 390 on 24/6/1980. Condition: Some chipping and rubbing to glaze. Apparent restoration to handles. Faint band around the body evident, possible restoration.
