Antique Victorian porcelain platter decorated with white roses, marked "J.S.V. Germany" by Johann Seltmann, City of Vohenstrauss, Germany, 1910s-1920s. The particular porcelain mark applied on the bottom side was registered in 1911 and used until c.1932.

The platter is 11" x 7.1/2" [28cm x 19cm]; the bottom side is not glazed, some wear of the gold rim, no chips, no hairlines, very good condition.

Johann Seltmann and his younger brother Christian Wilhelm Seltmann established a porcelain manufacturing factory in the city of Vohenstrauss, Germany in 1901. Brothers parted ways in 1909. Christian started his own factory in the city of Weiden. In 1914, the J.S. V. company already employed 500 workers. Johann Seltmann died in 1921. Management of the company was passed to his sons - Robert and Christian. After the WWII the factory was closed for some time because of critical damages to factory buildings. The Vohenstrauß business was gradually rebuild and modernized in next years. Robert Seltmann died in 1956. In 1970s the company struggled to survive on more and more competitive market. In 1995, the J.S. in Vohenstrauss went out of bussiness.
