This lot contains a hand woven tapestry titled, "Belle Chateau". This work was inspired by the Les Maisons Royales series which can be translated as Royal Residences. Originally the tapestry was apart of a set of twelve woven at the end of the 17th century for King Louis XIV. Each of the twelve works depict a different castle at each month of the year. This scene shows a 17th century castle in the August Landscape. The tapestry was hand woven in France and is composed of 50% wool, 40% cotton and 10% viscose. It is approx 59" x108" and weighs about 7.5lbs. The tapestry is in good condition with no noticeable flaws.
