Description
A remarkable antique engraved near pair of silver scroll holders executed in the colonial Indian cutch style in typical cylindrical form. The first scroll holder is engraved with the following "As Conselheiro A. A. Freire d'Andrade a Colonia Indiana de Lourenco Marques 29 abril 1909" (Board Member A. A. Freire d'Andrade the Indian colony of Lourenco Marques 29 April 1909). The second scroll holder is engraved with the following "To His Excellency Mayor Freire d'Andrade From The Chinese Club Hoong Che Lha L=Marques 10-8-1909" and several Oriental characters. Accompanied by a pair of low grade silver stands and what is presumably a silk scroll with oriental characters. Total approx. weight of the scroll holders is 26.98. troy oz (gross) and the weight of the stands is 6.02 troy oz (gross). From a New Rochelle, NY estate. Dimensions: scroll holders measure approx. 12" and 13 .50" in length. Holders measure approx.1.78" and 2" in diameter.
Condition
Good, with lights surface scratches and minor dings/dents. Holders and stands are void of any pictorial/numerical hallmarks. 12" hold exhibits a dented cap. Silk scroll has deteriorated.
