Description
Two Victorian lacquered boxes with mother of pearl inlay: larger a writing box with shaped sides and gilded floral decoration to top, fitted interior with removable trays and compartments (some covered with 19th C. black and white wallpaper), glass inkwell with cover, and red velvet panel to lid, wear consistent with age and use including craquelure to lacquer, small losses to raised edges, repaired right front foot, 2" h. x 11 1/4" w. x 8 1/4" d.; and a similar rectangular box with matching decoration and wallpapered interior, "P. M. & Co. Patent" stamped on interior of hinges, silver covered plaque to top inscribed "Mary J. Carson, 1852, Treasure", wear consistent with age including craquelure of lacquer, substantial loss to edges, with key, 2 3/4" h. x 10 1/4" w. x 4 1/2" d., both sold as found.
