Substantial group of photographs, certificates, documents and ephemera relating to mining and Bureau of Mines, includes Rutledge family information: John Rutledge was a mine manager in Illinois in 1895, he became Maryland's first Chief Engineer of the Bureau of Mines in 1922. There is a letter from Herbert Hoover to Rutledge to increase the number of mine inspectors from 9000 to 10000. There are numerous mine and mining related photos. John's father was Walton Rutledge and there are documents and a diary pertaining to him and his family from the 1860's; many photos of mines, mine workers, a photographic diary of the Kempton Mine in Garrett County, Maryland; etters, an Abraham Lincoln related poem/letter written by Mis Olevia Rutledge 1862, etc.; sizes vary, age appropriate wear and fading, G-VG
