Bill Griffith, best known for his Zippy character and the daily comic strip of the same name, produced a mostly one-page strip, Griffith Observatory, from 1977-1979. A play on his surname and the famous Griffith Observatory in the Hollywood Hills, the strip imagined if the observatory telescope was instead focused on the people in the city below. This makes for some hilarious, sometimes insightful commentary on Los Angeles culture. The strip includes a cameo of Zippy in the final mini panel.
