Description
Large manuscript deed dated 1696 being the conveyance of property in the Upper Swamp of Middleborough on several tracts excluding the "Majors Purchase", between John Turner of Scituate in Plymouth and Mary his wife and Solomon Hewet (Hewitt) of Marshfield. Signed by witnesses and acknowledged by John Cushing as Justice of the Peace and on verso by Samuel Sprague as Registrar. Turner was an early settler to Plymouth, arriving in 1628 with his parents. Mary Brewster whom he married in 1645 was a direct descendant of the Brewster famiy who arrived on the Mayflower. The deed is neatly penned, some repairs to verso and some discoloration marks. Measures 15.5 x 12". Accompanied by transcription of genealogical information.
