HEADGEAR. 1) ALPINE. A fine example of a WWII Italian alpine officer's hat often referred to as a "Capello Alpino". Hat is dark green felt with khaki colored edge binding & band. There is a large gold bullion eagle grasping a circle with the number "5" in it, flanked by corded infantry horns & rifles on the front of the hat. The hat also features a braided chin cord & a bullion chevron on the left side. Black leather sweatband & black cotton lining. CONDITION: hat remains quite solid. Edging & binding have notable wear & staining. Bullion eagle is exceptional. Lining & sweatband are solid showing expected wear. 2) ALPINE. A nice example of a WWII Italian alpine enlisted man's hat often referred to as a "Capello Alpino". Hat is green felt with turned over edging & a leather band. The front has a sewn black eagle grasping a circle with the number "2" in the center, flanked by corded infantry horns & rifles. The hat has 2 small vent holes on either side. Black leather sweatband & black cotton lining. CONDITION: hat has a few moth tracks scattered throughout but generally shows light wear & is in solid condition. Lining & sweatband are solid showing expected wear. 3) FEZ. A small Italian military fez in black felt with a black tassel & black cloth chinstrap. The front has a 2" gilded brass front plate depicting Romulus & Remus feeding from a she wolf with "17" below. The left side of the fez has 2 faded red chevrons. There is no sweatband or lining. CONDITION: fez shows overall light wear. 4) PITH HELMET. A tan cotton covered pith helmet with a circular metal vent at the top. Helmet has a tan leather chinstrap. The interior is lined with the same material as is on the exterior. The crown is stamped size "57" & has a faux leather sweatband. There is a pair of goggles fitted over the helmet. 5) TANKER HELMET. An M35 Italian tanker's helmet. This is the exact style of tanker helmet used in WWII by Italian armored forces. However, this example was likely made in the 1960s as this style was used by the Italian Army for many years. The entire helmet is black leather with 1 screened vent on either side. There is a neck flap & wide chinstrap. Interior is lined with tan leather & has numerous Italian ink stamps. CONDITION: unissued. (02-16371/BF). $400-700.
