Description
American, late 18th century. A Federal period hall console table with a flip top and gateleg to open into a game table. Brass hardware and hinges appear original and gateleg swings out on a carved, wooden hinge; ht. 29.5, wd. 32, dp. 31 inches. When opened to a game table, size is 32" square.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
Overall fair condition. Blemishes throughout table top, as well as separation from base. Splitting near hinges and drawer. Woodworm holes on back.
