East Greek late 6th cent. B.C..Terracotta. H. 8.3 cmSlender, oval face of a woman with a pointed nose and narrow lips that curve upwards to form the so-called Archaic smile. Disc earrings. The head is crowned by a stephane and veil. Small hole on top for suspension. The two lower corners of the protome missing. Terracottas of this type typically served as votive offerings and may represent the deity to whom the offering was presented.Formerly priv. coll. A. L., Basel (BL), collecting period ca. 1960s-2000.
