(Disney, 1965-68) A rare map of the Mineral King area featuring hand-written notes relating to development. The Mineral King project was announced in 1965 and scheduled for a 1973 opening date. Many challenges presented themselves including legal battles with preservationist groups. Despite this, the project continued to be pursued after Walt's passing and was addressed in subsequent Shareholder Reports, until the project was abandoned in 1978. Among the grease pencil and ink annotations are details for the proposed "Area II" and "Project Area," with the latter featuring a "Golf Course" and railroads in addition to ski lifts, hiking and riding trails, and roads. Measuring 18.25"x32" the map with original folds is in very good condition, despite slight wear and tear to the edges and corners.
