General Electric Art Deco 'Cleopatra' bakelite and Plaskon vanity box, done for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, the bottom is black and top ivory. 5 3/4 x 5 1/2 x 3 1/4''. Plaskon was invented in 1931 by Toledo Scale Co. They needed a white plastic instead of the black or brown bakelite and found they could also dye Plaskon different colors. GE purchased the Plaskon and molded it into different items such as clock and radio cases, boxes etc.
