Item Details
Description
A whimsical and endearing inspired pottery by Todd Warner. Artist stamp on bottom with 1978 dated. The pair of sculptures depicts prehistoric-like animals - a woolly mammoth and a hatching furry bird. The sculptures are imaginative and appear as though they popped out of an illustrated book. From a private collection. Dimensions: 13.75"h x 7"w x 11.5"d / 6.25"h x 6.5"w x 5"d. In very good vintage condition. Todd Warner (1945- ) began his career as a professional sculptor in 1967, creating imaginative pieces and intricate installations while teaching art in numerous schools in Michigan for a few years. With humor and insight, Warner sculpts fantastical animal artwork; since his youth in rural Michigan, he has found a kinship with animals. They inspired his childhood sketches and continue to be the focal point of his sculptures, although he also sculpts people. With skill and intuition, he captures the essence and nature of animals using unique techniques. His pieces are created using various media including clay, steel, wood, and even fossilized coral. He finishes his creations with colorful and careful painting, bringing them to life at last. Warner explains, "My sculptures are whimsical and sensitive; they have their own spirit." Warner has exhibited his art in over forty solo shows in the United States and abroad and his fanciful sculptures can be found in countless in zoos, museums, and private collections. Among his collectors are Zsa Zsa Gabor, "Good Morning, America"'s Charlie Gibson, the New York Thruway, the Greater Orlando Airport Authority, David Copperfield, and the headquarters of USA Today. Warner continues to create his masterpieces from his studios in Michigan and Florida
