A modern folklore inspired screenprint on paper titled "Metamorphosis - Man Into Bear" by celebrated First Nation Canadian artist Norval Morrisseau. Hand signed in pencil on the bottom right, with an annotation of 33/99 mid bottom, and titled bottom left. Published by Canadian Native Prints LTD, Vancouver, B.C. Canada in 1977. Magical change of form has always fascinated the artist. Since earliest childhood his head and heart have been filled with Oijbway myths and legends concerning metamorphosis of spirits, men, and animals. From a private collection. Dimensions: 30.25"h x 25.25"w (framed). In very good vintage condition. Norval Morrisseau (1932-2007) also known as Copper Thunderbird, was an Indigenous Canadian artist from the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek First Nation. Known as the "Picasso of the North", Morrisseau created works depicting the legends of his people, the cultural and political tensions between native Canadian and European traditions, his existential struggles, and his deep spirituality and mysticism. His style is characterized by thick black outlines and bright colors. He founded the Woodlands School of Canadian art and was a prominent member of the "Indian Group of Seven."
