Description
An elegant Arts and Crafts inspired ceramic vase from Pewabic Pottery in Detroit. This is the Large Classic Vase design with a Pewabic Blue glaze, which has hints of teal and turquoise. Pewabic logo stamped on the bottom. Hand-thrown and glazed by Pewabic artisans and each ceramic from the studio is one of a kind due to slight variations in glaze and firing processes. In the early days of Pewabic, founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton sketched shapes for her vessel thrower Joseph Heerich, to throw on the wheel. Stratton would then apply slip or other decorative applications to the surface, much like the Classic Vase finish. An opportunity to collect an item from an institution with a rich history dating to 1903. Pewabic is known as a cultural destination and a pillar in Detroit's artistic community. Murals by Pewabic can be found throughout Metro Detroit, including Detroit Institute of Arts, Cranbrook, and Detroit Public Library to name a few. From a private collection. Dimensions: 14.25"h x 6dia. In very good condition.
