Description
Terracotta drinking pot with multiple bulbous wells at its base, possibly relating to a ceremony of unity. A Bangba artifact, according to collector's notes. (Similar attributed to Zande, Mangbetu.) Deep gray terracotta with six round chambers joined to a wide cylindrical neck, the neck with textured exterior. Approx. 12" H x 13" D. Provenance: Estate of Thomas McNemar, (1931-2020.) McNemar lived and collected throughout Central and West Africa in the 1960s and 70s. He established galleries of African Art in New York and San Francisco, selling to museums and public and private collections in the United States and Europe.
