Description
English Silver Pair Case Fusee Pocket Watch, movement engraved T Renard, London, SN 16478, KW/KS, with Wm F Robinson, Wilmington, DE repair label in outer case, runs when wound (No Warranty intended!!), case with London hallmarks for 1814, makers mark WJ, likely William Johnson, London, beautifully engraved movement, 41 mm diam, case 46 mm, outer case 55 mm, white enamel dial with no hairlines or chips. The Robinson family ran a jewelry store/silversmithing business at 91 Market St in Wilmington, DE in the mid-19th c. Hannah Robinson, b 1803, was the only female silversmith in DE from 1700 till 1850. She succeeded John F Robinson, brother, b 1812 at his shop at 91 Market St. Wm F Robinson, b 1810, another brother must have worked in that shop as well. He was active 1840-49 when he passed. The shop was kept open until 1867 when John died, Hannah lived until 1878. The discrepancy between 91 Market and 111 Market is unexplained. T Renard was not found as a watchmaker, may have been a retailer.
