Contemporary 3/4 leather over marbled boards, gilt spine.FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, and the first edition to be published for the public. The first edition in German had been privately printed in 1847, in an edition of 100 copies for distribution among the Prince's friends and family. Adalbert and his expedition arrived in Rio in 1842. From there they sailed to Para, then up the Amazon to the Xingu tributary venturing further up the river than any previous explorers.
