Description

PAIR SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER CROSSES. Comprising a pair of large Spanish colonial pectoral (wearing) crucifixes, one mounted on hardwood with silver corpus and banding, the other of silver twist form with silver corpus and ornate terminals and large suspension loop at top and hook on verso together with chain. The largest of the two measures 8 inches (20cm).

Large pectoral wearing crosses such as those offered in this lot were found throughout Spanish colonial Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, they were often found worn over ponchos by members of the Callahuaya ethnic group
