EXCEEDINGLY LARGE MICRO MOSAIC CROSS, ITALIAN C. 1900. Comprising a large and impressive nickeled bronze cross form with quatrefoil terminals. Inlaid with exquisite micro mosaic designs of flowers, and love birds. At the top a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit, at center the Agnus Dei flanked by implements of the Passion. Down further still a chalice and Eucharistic Host and terminating in a mother pelican, symbol of the Church. The finial with suspension nob. Such large examples were often commissioned through the Vatican workshops as gifts for high-ranking church officials. Scarce. Height 21 inches (53.4cm).
