Early 19th century American School watercolor, pen, ink and mica flakes painting on paper of General George DeWolf and his family in an elegant parlor of their Rhode Island home, under glass in a gilt wood frame. Provenance: Featured in "Documentary History of American Interiors: From the Colonial Era to 1915," by Edgar de Noailles Mayhew and Minor Myers. Published New York : Scribner, c. 1980. Excerpt: "Plate 13. Artist Unknown. General George DeWolf and Family. C. 1835-1840. Watercolor with crystalline decoration. Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Myers. General George DeWolf built his house, which he called The Lindens, in Bristol, Rhode Island, in 1810 at a cost of $65,000. The interior is quite fashionable with its striped wallpaper, bright carpet, swagged drapes, and ornamented ceiling.
