Description
An early and rare Swiss halberd, a classic example of this type of pole arm. In many European armies, halberds were carried by sergeants as symbols of authority, well into the era of gunpowder warfare. Small, fitted museum plaque on pole. Swiss, circa 1625. Condition, small, braised repair to blade. Overall length, 92". Provenance: deaccessioned from the Los Angeles County Museum; important Ottawa collection.
